The X5C1/SW is the one that had the serious wind bug. The X5C1 original can actually handle light bordering on moderate wind. This is me zipping around WW2 bunkers with my 808 camera strapped to the undercarriage in a fairly stiff breeze. She handled it pretty well.
As a first quad the stock X5C1 (IMO) cant be beat even now. Tough as old boots, cheap as chips and with enough grunt to strap an 808 keychain cam on. Even now after having moved on in the hobby i am still partial to frequent flights with my trusty X5C1/808 #16V3 combo. Its a bird i can grab on...
So far the only real pro i spot in the mavic is its portability. The camera is suspect (for me) I do 1080p 60 fps all the time and the mavic does it poorly
Best thing you could do IMO is get the tried and tested tough as old boots Syma X5C1 http://www.banggood.com/Syma-X5C-Explorers-2_4G-4CH-RC-Quadcopter-Mode-2-With-Camera-p-913827.html?p=2O21111526893201504H

Fine looking craft. I was all set to do another S500 build after giving my last one away but i like the look of this. Shame the Landing gear aint high enough for a gimble.
I cant see you getting into any bother with the X5C1, range at best 100 metres. Good choice for a first bird , for mastering the basics of flight its still the daddy IMO
Best little cam you could lift with an Syma X5C1 would be the venerable 808 #16 V3. I still take to the skies with my 808/X5C1 frequently despite having a fleet of more advanced craft. IMO no fleet should be without an 808 in its arsenal.
