The 3rd wire is a signal wire and in your case it is being used to control the camera on/off I wouldn' t disconect it, don't believe it would be causing your problem. Try switching the SD card in the camera for a differrent one.

Haven't tried it, it is an amplifier which goes to the saying garbage in garbage out, you can amplify 1000 times and if your amping a poor quality signal you will get a poor quality amplified signal that most likely will be worse then the unamplified one, at least this has been my experience...
