    Scary Flight

I have given it some thought, but before I attempt that I want to fly both at the same time - enter similar waypoints but have one follow the other at a higher altitude and of course have separate landing spots.

    Scary Flight

I just moved to Loveland, Colorado - my house backs up to a golf course. This morning, I decided to fly one of my modified Elev-8 quads over the course as it was a nice, sunny morning but very cold - no golfers out on the course. I uploaded a simple waypoint mission - the aircraft was to climb...

Why I don't Like Tarot Frames

Jeremy, regarding landing gear, I used nylon rods, which I bought on Amazon. They are stronger and flex which absorbs a lot of shock on hard landings:

4 crashes in 1 minute video. The ones I have caight on film

I remember some time ago reading about parachute systems for drones - here a few links I found: https://fruitychutes.com/uav_rpv_drone_recovery_parachutes.htm?gclid=CjwKCAiAx4fhBRB6EiwA3cV4KqNyZEXyICmTIUfMuxVnQsxuCNy_WJmlvC3YOhgunKwlamqL5RDqWhoCkkYQAvD_BwE https://www.marsparachutes.com/...

4 crashes in 1 minute video. The ones I have caight on film

I know what you mean about being gun-shy. After my two crashes I decided to give up, but like you, I had a bunch of parts laying around and I missed not having a flying video platform, so I decided to build a new one - the Tarot Iron Man. It was scary taking off yesterday, but it did fly. But...

4 crashes in 1 minute video. The ones I have caight on film

I am curious about crash #3 as I had the same experience with two crashes myself - here is the video from one of them: Both, the modified Elev-8 and Tarot 650 Sport had ESCs mounted under the motors with power/ground leads running through the booms to the pwd harness in the chassis. I learned...

    Planning A New Build

Well, I was searching through some old posts in a couple of forums - seems that this problem has cropped up in other builds. There was a lot of technical stuff being mentioned that seemed to do with code in the APM firmware, but since the posts dated back to 2013 or so I figured that any code...

    Planning A New Build

So, this morning, the air was calm though somewhat cold but conditions were right for a test flight. Being it's first flight the objectives were to make sure all flight controls - pitch, roll, yaw worked fine. Then put the aircraft into Loiter mode and test the compass/gps; in Loiter mode, yaw...

    Planning A New Build

Repairs have been completed. I calibrated the ESCs and redid the radio calibration. The compass appeared okay when I connected to Mission Planner but I did tweak the compass declination a tad to get the aircraft heading to match the compass on my iPhone. I also did the motor/compass calibration...

    Planning A New Build

Good news! After weeks, which seemed an eternity, my new Hoobbywing 40A ESCs arrived! It will take a day or two to swap out the other three ESCs and install these, and put the aircraft back together, check everything and try again, weather permitting. Stay tuned!

Elev-8 Parts - What To Do??

Thanks for the link... looks compelling. I have some time to decide what to do - may go ahead and begin the build as I don't need the f.c. until later. Only concern is I have limited room and if I get started with this build and my ESC arrives next week, I'll want to switch projects as I'm hot...

Elev-8 Parts - What To Do??

So, while waiting for a replacement ESC that I burned up in my Tarot 650 Iron Man, I was going through my box-o-parts - stuff I had ordered some time ago as spares for my Elev-8's ( I had two), such as motors mounts, and parts I salvaged from a crash - three booms, chassis plates, misc...

    Planning A New Build

Uh, sorry if I didn't indicate that I am using 40 A ESCs. The Motors can draw up to 38 A at full power but I don't intend to run them that hard - this is strictly going to be a flying video platform with no undue stresses intended. The manufacturer recommends 40 A ESCs and that's what motivated...

    Planning A New Build

Well, first flight ended in failure. After arming, I started to advance the throttle and the aircraft immediately toppled onto its left side and spun around clockwise - looked to me like loss of power on the #3 motor (front left). The aircraft remained upright and smoke started coming from the...

    Planning A New Build

I have good news! I solved my arming problem - turns out that the ESCs are okay after all. I successfully calibrated each ESC individually and reinstalled them and put the aircraft back together. I discovered that there's a new feature in Mission Planner called Compass/motor calibration - it is...

    Planning A New Build

Yeah, I saw that in the specs, but the T-Motor site also shows 40 A ESCs with this motor: http://store-en.tmotor.com/search.php?encode=YTozOntzOjQ6InR5cGUiO3M6MToiMCI7czo4OiJrZXl3b3JkcyI7czo2OiJNTjM1MjAiO3M6MTg6InNlYXJjaF9lbmNvZGVfdGltZSI7aToxNTQ0MDU0MzExO30= And I don't plan on running at max...

    Planning A New Build

Short note: ESC calibration failed as well as my attempt to arm the aircraft. Mission Planner offered no clue as to the problem. I suspected something wrong with the ESCs. So I took the aircraft back to the dungeon and removed the top chassis plate to get to the power distribution wiring -...
