FPV with smartphone as monitor?

Hi there,

I'm a newbie to building quads. So for my first quadproject I was wondering if you could connect a FPV camera like these (with the help of an app) to your smartphone? I'm really curious about it.

If it's possible, would you need to buy something extra like a receiver for your Phone?

Many thanks!

Just for grins I googled "fpv for smartphones" and wow. You're not the only one interested in this. I didn't get in depth with any of the articles/videos but there is more than one way to achieve your goal. So, yes it is possible.

The camera and transmitter that you are suggesting are for 5.8Ghz and would not be usable with any smartphone that I know of. Some people have used WiFi cameras to send pictures to smartphones but latency is too much for fpv flying. A simple 5.8Ghz receiver and a cheap reversing monitor from eBay would be the lowest cost option.

Thanks for your reply! I've looked it up and found it it's actually way easier and better to use monitors which are designed for connecting to a camera. So I'll go look for a cheap monitor. ;)

Okay, clear! Later on, I will build my quad ready for FPV then I will just get a monitor which is built for FPV purposes. Thanks for the info!

Note it's very important to get one that lists 'no blue screen' in the specs.

These guys got a lot of stuff (never dealt with them)

Thanks! These monitors look nice for their price. I also found this one at Banggood which I'm not sure of wheater it has blue screen. Is 'blue screen' some error which shows up when you loose signal with your quad?

There are a few dual band smart phones apple and andriod my note 3 is dual band and will receive 5.8 ghz. The 5.8 ghz FPV is preferable to using 2.4 because of the good possibility of interference with the transmitter signal. Google C-GO1camara this is hero size and will transmit to a dual band phone on 5.8 ghz.
