Learn in a DJI Spark??

So I've been looking, researching this drone thing. First I was thinking Mavic , mainly for its range. I have 100 acres I live on which is about 3/4 mile from end to end, open, trees , ponds, and a creek. Main reason for the drone is surveillance type stuff on my property, don't think I'll take it anywhere else but who knows.
So I've been asking about this, some say learn on what you are going to fly, others say get a starter/cheap drone to learn on, I counted, there at 39,586,294 drones to choose from, how confusing.
So I was looking at the Spark.. a easy to learn "selfie" drone... And I was thinking, I could get the Spark fly more combo and with the controller I could get up to 1.2 miles of range.. I know, I know on a perfect day in the perfect place, but still... My house is toward the center of my property so I really have maybe 1/2 mile to the edges.
Back to the spark.. I could start learning in the yard, with no controller to start, add the phone app and get a little better, then add the controller at some point to get the distance to fly around the property.

What do you think, or am I just dreaming here???
I REALLY don't want to lose a $500-$1000 drone....

I wouldn't buy the Spark for what you want to use it for, it only has a 100M/330 ft range and it is WiFi:(
Check the specs: http://www.dji.com/spark/info#specs

DJI Phantom Standard will do all you need to do for your price point, RTH should you forget where you are while flying, 2.7K resolution more than adequate for keeping an eye on your property. You can get these on sale many times for $399.00 regular selling price is $499.00 still a good deal for what you get.
Check the specs: http://www.dji.com/phantom-3-standard/info#specs

From there you can go up, more features, better camera quality ect..
Added plus is they are very easy to fly semi-autonomous.

Well if you check the specs, with the controller the range on the Spark is 1.2 miles, hence my looking at that one.
The P3 has 1000m range, the Spark with controller has 1.2 miles which is 1931 meters. almost double the range.

Sorry that was the range in WiFi Mode, yup 1.2 miles from the controller.
Just my opinion I would still go with the Phantom 3 Standard, better video/photo resolution, better in the wind, 3 axis camera gimbal, little better range ( makes a difference in video stability) same price.

Also the Spark is a new product, it will take awhile for them to fix the bugs through Firmware Updates, DJI customer service absolutely sucks, read some of the forum inputs.

Don't get me wrong DJI makes one of the most stable platforms out there, I have 2 P3P's and a new Mavic. You will need to become accustomed to the constant updates as they issue them.

Kinda like a new I Phone, always issues when they first come out, then they update & update until the product becomes stable & reliable. Same with DJI, The Phantom 3 series have been around for a long time and many of the "bugs" have been worked out of them.

I'd lose half my range if I went with the P3 which is marginal to begin with... might step up to the Mavic maybe, but it seems pretty complicated to use... And I freaking hate that my iPhone updates all the time, then I have to relearn... I just want to fly.
