erratic quad

I bought a parts quad, eachine 250 racer, and have been playing around with it. Namely the cc3d, just for fun. On the main, i have a naze as i personally feel cleanflight is a better program.

OMG. the little turd just shot up into the sky a good 30 to 50 feet, did a flip or two and continued to climb with the throttles chopped. Eventually it came back down and i regained control. Every time i make yaw adjustments the throttle jumps. i can twitch the yaw back and forth and the bugger will climb. Does it sometimes with roll commands too but not very often.

Needless to say, flying it is kind of interesting. At random times, it will jump hard with a yaw or roll command regardless of the throttle position. Honestly, i haven't laughed so hard in a long time.

However, the reason escapes me. Is this a transmitter firmware issue? a cc3d issue, or a libre pilot issue? it is not tuning, the quad is very stable when it is behaving. Do not have this problem with the naze. Just curious, it is destined to be mined for parts regardless.

Sounds like just tuning. More specifically your P setting for yaw may be too high. At a hover, yaw your craft and if throttle jumps up, lower your P until it stays in position

tried adjusting down the yaw.

Started the little turd up, hovered it about three feet in the air. twitched the yaw a little and the throttle still jumped.

Just when i was about to shut it down, it pitched back, throttle jumped, rolled to the right with three flips and slammed into the ground.

possessed. I should shoot a video and take it to a priest. It is not the tuning, i am pretty sure. When it is behaving, it flies fine. Then it gets a bug up its antenna and does something insane, and then it is fine again. Never seen anything like it. It just runs away for a few seconds then calms down again.

It could be rf interference, i live in a residential neighborhood, but the naze, which is currently down for a motor upgrade, worked fine.
possible firmware miss match between librepilot and open tx on the taranis?
possible damage to the gyro on the FC?
possible short on the PDB, a result of a crash? though i do not see how a power fluctuation would do what it is doing. However, i am also getting video feed problems with the camera, colors blurring out at times. That could be a power problem.

i just want to know why. As far as i am concerned, cc3d needs to go the way of openpilot. The scrap heap. i do not think it is the fc in general, however. might be damaged. it is very interesting though.

Sounds like it could possibly be related to voltage spikes. Does it happen when you're letting off the throttle?

Usually, it happens when i am giving it a command. I was lifting it little higher from a hover and it shot into the air, pitched end over end a couple times and continued to climb even after i chopped the throttle.

This last time i was GENTLY pitching it backwards to bring it closer to me to drop it and shut it down when it pitched back and rolled to the right, fliping a couple times before careening into the ground.

it really is fascinating to watch. For instance, i never knew you could pitch a copter back at a 45 degree angle, burst the throttle enough to keep it airborn and roll it sideways into a couple flips. Honestly, if i had a video i would have posted it and claimed i meant to do it. It was that awsome. pros would be trying to copy it for weeks.

voltage spikes. Couldn't be the battery, have used a few of them.
short on the esc pads? recently did some soldering there, soldered 3 pin mini connectors to them to make swapping legs easier. Bad regulator? The PDB has taken a beating. Where would i test for it? And why not continous? Why just ocassionally? has to be related to command input somehow, or possibly certain attitudes which is why i suspect the FC. something wrong with the gyro maybe.

i swear it looks just like someone hijacking the controls and going insane. Also at times, even in attitude mode it acts like it is in rate mode, forcing me to make corrections to level it back out, then it is fine again.

Going to do some testing. Going to swap out the fc and PDB with the other quad and see what happens. If that works, then i will put the naze fc on this PBD and see what happens.

ok, swapped out the FC, same thing. Swapped out the PDB, same thing.

That leaves the motors, esc's, receiver and transmitter. Bah.
