That makes sense but would that mean u could use it asa ground for the antenna mod ir is the ground plain antenna a different deal? I read the definition in antenna theory on wiki but it makes it sound like its a ground to earth.
Basically i just want to know if there is any benefit to upgrading it...?
I did see 1 guy in an old forum post pics of his x8 modded controller and it had two 6db antennas installed which sparked my curiousity
I think that stub is of no real use any more, I'm assuming the antenna (under the cover) you are now using looks like this.
That metal cylinder is crimped to the ground of the cable which you have now soldered to your board. Note the active element (1/4 length) is the same length as the cylinder. So now you end up with a 1/2 wave dipole. You originally had only the 1/4 wave active element soldered to your board, I guess the stub soldered to the NEG was a low rent (cheaper) way to try to accomplish a similar result. Seems folks with X5's could try to duplicate it by simply soldering on a stub of wire to GND that's the same length as their antenna.
Actually the antennas i use are lil nicer and have metal lead instead of thin inner coaxial cable or whatever. Here sum pics of one i soldered straight to my board on one x8 using no pigtail etc. let it sit inside the shell inside a front arm and works great for such a ghetto job
