Sk450 Dead cat.

Hi guys
Very new to all this so please go easy on me, I wanted to build something that i could practice with first off then stick a gimbal and Gopro on the front and eventually take some great footage.

I opted for the SK450 Deadcat with Tarot 2214-920kv motors, Standard 8" props and afro 30a esc's all controlled by the KK2.1Hc board, My radio is a Turnigy 5x.
The setup as it stands with a Turnigy 3s 2200 lipo battery is 1.2kg which seems quite heavy considering this will rise considerably when i load it with FPV gear.

I am waiting for new 9" props to come off ebay then i will try to get the quad off the ground again as the first attempt went terribly wrong.

I guess what i am here for is to find out if my quad is heavy or about right and what is the limit for the setuf i have??

Thanks guys

Hi mate the battery will need to be 4000mah min 5000 mah would be better due to it having to fly quad and power the FPV, you will find that your need longer legs , if you mount camera below the frame , also there has been problems with the dead cat and how it flys, due to the motors not in the same place on the quad front legs are longer ,so on power climb it runs off to the side etc there is a fix but it means telling the board where the motors are , this is for kk2.0 but setting are about the same just look at the maths

thats what i have so far, I am going to be upgrading the firmware soon on the KK board with Steveis latest offering. I just hope it wont be too heavy for the motors. what motors could i upgrade to and what size props to give it plenty of lift??

John

Hi John looks good mate , you may get away running a 10x4.5 prop they normally go from 900-1000kv motors , the lower the kv the more torque the motor makes the bigger the prop, i have 650kv and run 14x5.5 props .
When you flash the kk2.1.5 hc , some guys say it can take up to 5 mins to flash ,i didnt find that at all took seconds but if it does dont panic and unplug it just wait , steveis firmware has lots more menus to it , Steve said most of the time quads fly well on the setting he put in so try it and see here is the manual

Hi yea i have heard a lot of good things about Steveis firmware fingers crossed it will sort it, As for props i will try the 9047 carbon fibre props first then maybe try something larger, I have been looking at batteries the problem with a bigger mah is of course more weight added, i went on ecalc and according to that its not going to hover but we will see.

Well things have not gone too well, i updated the firmware and now i have no power to the rx, The onle way i can get it to work is disconnect one of the channels from the rx and reconnect, hey presto its now powered, then when i reboot its gone again so for the time i am leaving the Aux channel disconnected and selecting auto level with the sticks. i am now doing very well am i?
I dont suppose you know where i can download the firmware to revert it back to standard or maybe firmware by someone else as i have tried all steveis and they are all the same.

Hi John try and re-flash steveis v1.18s1pro if no good , if you find in the drop down box ( the one for the board) hobbyking2.1 and 2.1.5(fuse restore)64kb , you will find kk2.1v1.6++aio by kapteinkuk modified by RC911 that should be good , it wont have as many menus

You are the man Holtneil, i owe you a drink mate, I used the Fuse Restore Controller instead of the normal one and it now has updated firmware all working fine all be it without Propellers as i am still waiting for prop nuts to arrive as i lost one when i crashed it last weekend and before anyone says it shouldn't have come undone it did because i had the motors around the wrong way all spinning in right direction but left hand threaded motors were where the right hand threaded were and vice versa. Once again mate thank you.

Nice one mate i like the pics and vids i will need a bit of practice before i get to fly as good as you, I took mine outside tonight and had a fly with settings from a youtube vid it seems a bit unstable so will try the standard settings that Steveis firmware comes with, Thats the good thing having 2 profiles on the KK board. Where abouts are you Neil?

I am right next door to RNAS Culdrose down in Cornwall so i will probably have the same problem although at the moment i need to make some kind of changes to stop my quad from flying away as soon as i get off the ground, For some reason it wants to fly forward i have my trims all set to zero but it still wants to fly away, i guess its something in the mixer settings? My lovely wife has bought me the Fatshark Teleporter Goggles, camera and transmitter for christmas so will make flying a bit easier for me i just hope that multistar battery comes in stock soon :)

Hi mate check CG you may need to move battery to get CG right , and more so when FPV is fitted , My Mrs santa has got me the AH-1 cobra for my trex 500 pro , so will be sorting that boxing day lol

Hi John i have these motors on my quad , they are nice and quiet very smooth have loads of power, runs up to a 14x5.5 prop on a 3 cell i use T fitting carbon fibre props

Hi mate if its the q brain yes it will , most do as they are for multirotor, single esc need to set up or made sure they are set up the same

Hi mate not been on here for a while, i bought that Motor and Esc combo from AGMHobby well should i say i have paid for it haha still waiting for them to send the goods, Have you used them before? i emailed them to find out what the hold up was and they tell me the goods are out of stock very odd considering there website says in stock. and if you ring the number a chinese guy answers and is no help at all.
