That looks like a great kit for the price, especially for beginners. Flashing means installing different and/or better flight control software on the KK board. If you wanted/needed to flash a KK board, you'd need one of these:

Some boards have mini USB ports for flashing/upgrading, but those guys don't. I know the link I sent shows it on backorder, but there are a lot of places, especially Ebay where you can get a USBasp AVR programmer for a couple bucks.

Oh yeah! I meant to mention that:

Most people are more comfortable with mode 2 where the left stick is throttle.

Hi James , the only down side i can see is the kk2.0 is fitted if it has 1.6 firmware it will be stable to a point well more stable than the first kk 2.0 the new board is the kk2.1.5 or kk2.1.5 Hard case but this needs to be flashed with Steveis code as the hk code has problems , if you flash it the kk 2.1.5 is a top board , so it you buy the quad may be later fit the new kk2.1.5 ,but ask Hk what firmware the kk2.0 is running
 
Thanks buddy, I think I read somewhere that the kk2 board has the old firmware installed and thats why people are recommending flashing it with the latest firmware update. Apparently with the firmware it has out the box it can be very unstable to fly. I guess it needs to be flashed with the 1.6 firmware?
 
Hi James yes you need to put on V1.6 but make sure its for the kk2.0 any other will brick the kk, but later think about upgrading to the kk2.1.5 or the kk2.1.5 hard case go on this link this is the software you need it will also let you flash ESCs with the right tools it will show you what you need

I haven't done any shopping either lol, I'm looking forward to the 2 weeks off work lol. I'm getting the Mrs to buy me a nine eagles galaxy visitor 3 to practice with :-)
 
Hi James that will be nice , on my list is the AH-1 Cobra body for my pro 500 dfc , and been look at an ornithoper they look fun as you may have guessed i am into anything that flys :)

I was in to rc cars for a fair few years bit got fed up with snobbery that goes with it all. I still have 4 or 5 kicking about that I use now and again lol. Things that fly are always fun ;-)
 
Hi guys i have the KK2.1 HC board on my Deadcat that i have just built, is there anyway of finding out on the lcd screen what firmware version it has, when i did a factory reset it said something really quick like Tronix or something what firmware should i have??
